#JacobsGives: Help build a fund for future generations
Give back into the #GenerationFund
Homecoming is a great event to get together and remember how great Jacobs times were! Whether you make it or not in person, you can always contribute to the studies of future generations by giving back. Not only alumni, but rather anyone can contribute to the fund, anytime.
The Alumni Association has redesigned the previous Scholarship into a Generation Fund, kicked off in 2015. The main concept is giving loans to students, who then repay a certain % of their salary for some years after graduation, with no interest rate. Having already been successfully introduced on other German private universities, it represents an alternative to student loans and a way for Alumni to stay involved with the university community. #GF is self-sustainable and will pave the future studies of generation to come.
As it is a new set up, the Alumni Board together with the university are still working on the legal aspects of the fund. Nonetheless, all money donated to this cause will go towards the students, in the new set up or alternative ones. Until ready - we will keep fundraising.
Background information about the Generation Fund
The idea of an Alumni Scholarship originated at the five-year reunion of the Class of 2004, who wanted to donate to an individual who would carry on the pioneering spirit of the class. This idea was further undertaken in the following years, on behalf of Alumni who felt strongly committed to contribute.
While in the past donations have been given once and were “lost” forever afterwards, donations to the Generation Fund are investments in the education of bright Jacobs students who will – in return – prepare the ground for further generations to come. This concept sets up a new pioneering, future-oriented way of funding university studies that will have the potential to revolutionize the current system we all know at Jacobs. It was first introduced at the 2015 reunion and already 18'000 EUR was donated only last year, with the support of a matching donation from Dr. Christian Jacobs, Honorary Chairman of Jacobs Foundation and Associate Board Member of the alumni association.
